Cumberland County Man Wins $2 Million Playing Powerball

Alan Duxbury played his usual numbers, which are inspired by birthdays in his family, for the March 1 Powerball drawing. He also purchased the $1 Power Play® option. Only days after his ticket matched all five numbers drawn, the Carlisle man visited Lottery headquarters to claim his $2 million prize. Alan always buys his tickets at Smoker’s Express on South Spring Garden Street in Carlisle. “I usually play Mega Millions or Powerball – and only one drawing at a time – but this day for whatever reason I played both games and for two consecutive draws,” Alan said. “It was the second Powerball drawing that won.” Mary, pictured with her husband, jokingly asked Alan if he held the winning ticket after reading a news article about a $2 million Powerball ticket being sold locally. Alan looked at the winning numbers on a computer and immediately knew they looked familiar. “When you play the Lottery, you always wonder how you’ll react – it’s just stunning,” Alan said, describing what it feels like to win millions of dollars.
